Abstract/Summary

An archaeological evaluation was carried out by AC archaeology on the semi-derelict netball and tennis courts formerly belonging to Lord Digby's School, in advance of a proposed housing development. The site lies within the medieval town of Sherborne and occupies an area of approximately 0.4 hectares. The evaluation consisted of three machine excavated trenches, which revealed shallow post holes and a truncated pit of medieval date along the northern Newland street frontage within Trench 1. Additional evidence for extensive ground disturbance was revealed within the centre and to the south of the site within Trenches 2 and 3. A single heavily truncated post hole of medieval date, did however survive within Trench 3.
