Abstract/Summary

A RM15 resistance survey, total area 100m x 40m (10 x 20m² grids), was completed November 2006, providing, as a result, good geophysical raw data that has greatly assisted the archaeological knowledge of the site. Suggesting the presence of buried material likely to pertain to the World War Two Heavy Anti Aircraft Battery that formerly stood upon the site; positive geophysical data recovered for the site has made archaeological interpretation possible. Areas of high resistance can clearly be identified west, east-northeast and southwest of the study area, relating, in all probability, to building material associated with emplacements. High resistance north/ centre of the stuffy area parallel to Barrack Road can be interpreted as building foundations/ material possibly relating to the gun batteries command post and associated buildings, whilst east of the stuffy area can be seen two areas of medium resistance that suggests the probable location of a roadway/ magazine structure, once sited within that locality. Running in a southwest to northeast direction, east of the study area, can be seen a line of medium resistance that suggests a possible pathway, whilst medium resistance north-northwest suggests the presence of probable building material relating to a possible building/ hard standing and associated pathway. Further archaeological investigation was suggested to confirm these findings.
