Date/Year | 1996 |
Abstract/Summary
‘The County Archaeological Officer recommended a condition requiring archaeological observation and recording during groundworks on this application because of the site’s location in the historic core of Hermitage, and because of its proximity to Church Farm, which was the site of a priory. The Dorset County Council Archaeology Service had offered to undertake this work.
I visited the site on 17 May 1996. The foundation trench had been fully excavated. The sections showed that about 0.2m of topsoil overlay a clay subsoil. No archaeological features or artefacts were seen.’
