Abstract/Summary
‘An archaeological trench evaluation was carried out prior to extensions to livestock building and construction of ground slurry and silage storage at Lower Hilton farm, Milton Abbas by AC Archaeology Ltd. on September 3rd 2014. The application area is located 200m north of the village of Hilton, north of the unclassified Hilton to Milton Abbas road. The evaluation comprised three machine-excavated trenches totaling 90m in length. Trench 1 and 2 were 40m long and Trench 3 was 10m, all of which were 1.8m wide. These were not designed to target any specific archaeological features but had potential to identify archaeological features associated with the nearby Iron Age and Roman field system, and overlying medieval lynchets. However, none of the trenches produced archaeological features, deposits or finds.’
