Abstract/Summary

‘A historic environment assessment of land off Alton Mead Lane, Leigh, Dorset, was undertaken during May and June 2014 in support of a forthcoming application for a photo-voltaic power array. The application area comprises c6.3 hectares of farmland. An assessment of the baseline conditions included all designated and non-designated heritage assets within 1km of the application area. There are no designated assets within the application area, and 12 within the broader study area. These comprise two Conservation Areas, five Grade II* Listed Buildings and five Grade II Listed Buildings. Most of the hedgerows within, and forming boundaries to, the application area are considered to be historic hedgerows and a number are also parish boundaries. The proposed development will not affect the significance of these assets. There is one non-designated heritage asset recorded within the application area. This comprises medieval ridge and furrow cultivation remains, identified as earthworks on air photographs but which are now reduce by ploughing. No non-designated assets are currently recorded within the broader study area. There is considered to be a low potential for the presence of previously unrecorded archaeological deposits within the application area.’
