Abstract/Summary

‘An archaeological evaluation for a proposed residential development at the rear of 6 South Walks, Fordington, Dorchester, Dorset ( SY 69709052), was carried out by AC archaeology during November 2006. The evaluation consisted of two trenches located at the rear of the property within an area of garden. Both evaluation trenches revealed deep soils overlying archaeological deposits and features of Medieval and Romano-British date, as well as earlier activity. The main archaeological component, comprised a single crouched inhumation burial of prehistoric origin. Further features included probable ditches and a single pit, one of the ditches containing a small quantity of late 1st century Romano-British pottery.’
