Abstract/Summary

‘Several archaeological watching briefs were carried out by Terrain Archaeology between July 2006 and December 2008 during various amenity enhancement works on Hengistbury Head, Dorset. The relatively small scale of these works meant that there was little archaeology exposed. Observations during footpath repairs on Warren Hill revealed a small gully cut into the top of a probable prehistoric deposit and a large circular feature filled with sand and gravel. This latter feature is probably related to WWII activity on the headland. Water supply works revealed a scatter of worked flint (primarily probably of late Neolithic date, but with one burin of probable Mesolithic date) and a small quantity of Iron Age/Roman pottery in and adjacent to the Bird Sanctuary (the former Nursery Garden).’
