Abstract/Summary
‘An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Terrain Archaeology in October 2008 during groundworks associated with the development of Chapel Yard Pottery, West Street, Abbotsbury. Most of the site appears to have been terraced away in the 20th century to provide level ground for a cowshed (later became the pottery workshop). Part of the garden in the plot immediately to the west was also cleared. This area contained a deep topsoil with a large quantity of 19th and 20th century finds and stone rubble immediately overlying natural deposits. The rubble probably derives from a small building that formerly stood on the street frontage and which was demolished in the 20th century.’
