Date/Year | 2010 |
Abstract/Summary
The survey took place prior to the installation of ferrous rabbit-proof mesh on the barrows. The effect of the animal burrowing was identified particularly on the north-west side. The fluxgate gradiometer survey indicated that the Roman road side bank ran under the mound 112016 but the original quarry ditch was circular rather than the oval shape of the barrow. A sequence of events was proposed to clarify this. Stone kerbs around barrows 112017 and 112018 were identified and an apparent causeway on the south side of 112017. A further resistivity survey was proposed when there was more moisture in the ground to check for additional funerary monuments in the mounds.
