Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation comprising ten trenches was commissioned by the National Grid in the parishes of Winterbourne Abbas, Winterbourne Steepleton, Winterbourne St Martin and Portesham along the proposed project of the Dorset Visual Impact Provision. A geophysical survey had identified several linear anomalies and other possible archaeological features. The evaluation found the remains of two round barrows and a demolished structure. There was also a rectilinear enclosure containing an assemblage of worked flint of early prehistoric date. Several features could not be excavated. There was also a lynchet of later prehistoric date.
