Abstract/Summary
‘An archaeological trench evaluation was undertaken by AC archaeology Ltd, on land to the rear of 7 -13 Hogshill Street, Beaminster, Dorset (ST 47944 01332), during March 2018. The investigation comprised three machine-excavated trenches and was undertaken as part of a
programme of archaeological works required by West Dorset District Council as a condition of planning permission. Prior to the archaeological works, much of the site had been greatly reduced in levels, notably the south extent of the application area. However, a limited number of
archaeological features was revealed in two of the trenches in the northern portion of the site. These features included a possible former burgage plot boundary ditch, which contained a single sherd of 12th /13th century pottery, and a number of further deposits including structural remains, all of probable 18th / 19th century origin, based on the post-medieval pottery recovered.'
