Abstract/Summary
Report on an evaluation by Wessex Archaeology for Bellway Homes (Wessex) Ltd of 2.6ha of land proposed for development. The evaluation comprised the machine excavation of seventeen trial trenches, each approximately 30m long and 1.6m wide, equivalent to about 4% of the development area. This resulted in limited evidence of archaeology on the site. In Trench 4 small pit with one sherd of Romano-British pottery in its filling, and a small quantity of fired clay were recorded. A number of shallow linear features were recorded, but could not be dated, and a small assemblage of worked flint of Neolithic date was recovered from topsoil across the site.
