Abstract/Summary

A detailed gradiometer survey was conducted over parkland at St Giles House, Wimborne St Giles with the aim of establishing the presence, or otherwise, and nature of detectable archaeological features. The survey revealed the presence of anomalies of probable archaeological origin corresponding with exposed and known buried culverts and two anomalies of possible archaeological origin which did not correspond to any known features. Another survey examined an area south of St Giles House to determine the presence of anomalies corresponding with a suspected eastward branch of the known culvert, leading to a water feature of a parkland grotto. Two linear anomalies consistent with this were detected on the approximate correct orientation.
