Abstract/Summary

'Terrain Archaeology carried out an archaeological assessment, supplemented by the recording of two engineer’s test pits, at Sandringham Sports Centre, Dorchester, as part of the scoping works associated with the proposed site of a new dance studio. The assessment determined the site lies in a highly significant prehistoric and Roman landscape focused on an E-W chalk ridge. The site lies on the north-facing slope of the ridge, apparently away from the main foci of prehistoric and Roman activity. The results from the engineer’s test pits suggested that other than a narrow strip along the east side of the site, any potential archaeology on the site is likely to have been truncated by the construction of the sports centre.'
