Abstract/Summary

This short guide gives a description and history of the village of Chettle from its prehistoric beginnings to the Sazon settlement that eventually gace it its name. The Christian church also has a history back to Saxon times but the earliest records available only show details of a church being constructed in the fourteenth century. The history continues into the 1940s and the leaflet finishes with a note to three memorial tablets. Enclosed in the guide is also a letter to a Sir Owen who undertook some research for the leaflet.
