Abstract/Summary
A brief summary of the history of glassmaking and interim report on excavations in 1980 of a glass-making furnace found at Kimmeridge. Excavations in April 1980 disclosed the plan of a coal-fired glass furnace built in 1618 around an air passage probably part of a former alum-burning furnace. The furnace produced vessel glass which was sold in south-east England and London until demolition in 1623.
