Author/Originator | Valentin, J |
Date/Year | 1998 |
AC archaeology | 2098/2/1 |
Abstract/Summary
The archaeological evaluation of the rear of 15 High East Street comprised the excavation of 2 trial pits 1.5 m square. The work was conducted by AC Archaeology prior to the end of April 1998.
These trial pits revealed evidence for Romano-British mortar and opus signinum floor levels and demolition layers of broadly 2nd-3rd century AD date. These were sealed by later Roman soil accumulation, followed by early post-medieval infilling deposits and soil accumulation. A number of modern soils, service trenches and structures were also present.
