Abstract/Summary
During the 25-27th April, 1998, C. Sparey Green observed and recorded a small area (3m x 1.75m) that had been cleared during gardening operations at the rear of 18 Orchard Street, Dorchester. Limited further excavation took place in the NW quadrant of this area.
A layer of redeposited Roman building debris was found to seal up to a metre of fine ash, over-fired clay tiles, and occupation of second- or third-century date. Similar deposits have been observed close to the defences elsewhere in town.
