Abstract/Summary

The archaeological desk-based assessment of Poole Pottery, Poole Quay, Poole revealed that the main area proposed for redevelopment was in an area reclaimed from the sea during the 19th and early 20th century. It is partially on the site of a large shell midden known as the “Osyter Bank” which probably dates form the 17th century. No Scheduled Ancient Monuments or Listed Buildings impinged on the site. The surviving pottery buildings date form the mid 19th to late 20th century and are of industrial archaeological value. There are a number of fine decorative tiled murals and panels within the pottery.
