Abstract/Summary
a small collection of human bones were found in the small courtyard north of the main block at Priory House during 1962. Further discoveries were made on the same site in 1963. The discoveries were made in narrow trenches dug for water pipes but no associated remains were recorded. Mrs Greenwood, member of the DNHAS, believed the burials were aligned with the heads to the west about 2ft belowthe surface.
Hutchins noted that 'near a cartload of bones' were dug up c. 1720 whilst excavating for the cellar immediately north of the courtyard. Some of these burials appear to have been in cists, whilst one was buried face downwards in a stone coffin with the head to the east.[1]
