Description

Two trenches were excavated to evaluate the impact of the proposed construction of two small extensions, one on each side of the cottage. Trench 1 in an area of lawn at the front of the cottage and Trench 2 on a lawn at the back. Evidence for early to middle Iron Age activity was recorded in Trench 1. A subsoil horizon of possible medieval or earlier origin was observed in Trench 2, as well as a ditch of uncertain origin containing a small quantity of medieval, Romano-British and Iron Age pottery. Two undated features were also present.
