Abstract/Summary

‘An archaeological evaluation, consisting of the recording of two machine-excavated trenches, was undertaken by AC archaeology at Cobb Cottage, Sutton Poyntz, Weymouth, Dorset, during February 2012. The work was undertaken in support of a planning application for two extensions to the existing property. The evaluation has confirmed the presence of subsoil archaeological features on both sides of the present building, adjacent to where the new extensions are proposed. Trench 1, positioned at the front of the property, revealed evidence for Iron Age occupation, comprising two features containing significant quantities of pottery. Trench 2, at the rear of the property, contained features and deposits of uncertain date, represented by part of a substantial ditch, and two undated smaller features.’
