Description

Poole Museum Archaeology Unit carried out a watching brief during the construction of a new toilet block and associated services at Upton Country Park in November 1995. No significant archaeology was observed, except at the end of one of the service trenches where a feature containing briquetage and a sherd of Romano-British Black Burnished Ware pottery was found. This is likely to be part of a Romano-British salt making site. Finds made by M A BLyne in the immediate vicinity suggest the location of an industrial siteengaged in pottery manufacture or brine boiling. (1) (2)
