Summary

A probable Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark on 1995 aerial photographs. Alternatively, however, it may be a natural feature such as a doline (sink hole). This barrow is part of the extensive barrow cemetery known as the Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. It was mapped by English Heritage's Knowlton Circles Project and was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

SU 0295 1077. A Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, and has been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. It is defined by a single sub-circular ditch 17.7m in diameter and is part of the extensive barrow cemetery known as the Knowlton Circles Barrow Group (SU 01 SW 52). <1>

A sub-circular cropmark at Knowlton is visible on a 1995 aerial photograph. <2>

The feature measures around 13m in diameter and may represent a Bronze Age barrow. Alternatively, however, it may be a natural feature such as a doline (sink hole).

The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
