Monument record MDO50210 - Iron Age enclosure, Broadmayne

Please read our .

Summary

An archaeological evaluation in 2022 of a site proposed for development revealed ditches in a trench (Trench 9) positioned to investigate an anomaly in a geophysical survey. This filling of the ditches contained sherds of Iron Age pottery, and the feature was interpreted as a double-ditched D-shaped enclosure of Iron Age date, likely to be a small defended settlement. A flint assemblage recovered from the filling of the ditches had Neolithic to early Bronze Age characteristics, suggesting activity in the area at this earlier date.
