Monument record MDO50211 - Ring ditch, Broadmayne

Please read our .

Summary

An archaeological evaluation in 2022 of a site proposed for development revealed ditches in a trench (Trench 5) positioned to investigate a curvilinear anomaly in a geophysical survey. These proved to be a series of intercutting ditches overlain by a buried soil of unknown origin. The fillings of the ditches contained a small assemblage of struck flint of Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date. Interpreted as a well-maintained ring-ditch likely to be associated with a round barrow or a round house, and that the buried soil over the ditches might be a ploughed-out bank or mound of a barrow.
