Full Description

(SY 50158918) A: strip lynchets. (B: 50158895) (C: 50168881) B & C : rig and furrow ploughing.
In area A there are three N-S lynchets, averaging 0.5m. high and 1.5m. wide. They are parallel and spaced at intervals of approximately 22.0m. To the S. of these lynchets in areas B and C is narrow rig and furrow - approximately 3.0m. from rig to rig, set in an E-W direction. B & C are bounded by modern hedge banks and within the field proper are delimited by a lunchet like scarp 0.4m. high, with traces of an outer ditch. B is separated from A by a low field bank. All the areas are grass covered. While A appears to represent field strips of probable medieval origin, the rig and furrow seems likely to be of post medieval date. It was practised in Dorset in the 18th century and in places in the 19th century. <1>
