Full Description
Medieval rig and furrow, set in an east/west direction. The earthworks are bounded by modern hedge banks and within the field proper are delimited by a lynchet like scarp with traces of an outer ditch. Rig and furrow was practised in Dorset in the eighteenth century and in places in the nineteenth century. (1) Well preserved ridge and furrow cultivation is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and LiDAR {2,3} across fields immediately to the west of Cogden Farm. It was digitally plotted for the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
