Full Description

A rapid examination of air photography suggests the presence of two further possible round barrow sites, of Prehistoric or Roman date, visible as ring ditch cropmarks at SU 0204 1033 and SU 0211 1014. <1>

The three round barrows described by authorities 1-3 have been mapped from aerial photographs by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. Their location and dimensions have been recorded more accurately, and photographic evidence allowed more detail to be identified. … The third barrow is defined by a single incomplete circular ditch 43.5m in diameter. These barrows are associated with the extensive barrow cemetery known as the Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. <2>

SU 0205 1037. A Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs and has been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. It is defined by a single circular ditch 27.2m in diameter. The barrow is associated with the extensive barrow cemetery known as the Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. <2>

A partial ring ditch at Knowlton, Woodlands, is visible as a cropmark on a 1977 aerial photograph <5>. The ring ditch comprises a sub-circular feature 41m wide by 47m long, with a 1.7m wide ditch; it's east side is only partially visible.

The feature is one of a group of similar features at this location and is probably a Bronze Age barrow. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
