Full Description
An undated site is recorded opposite Pergins Island at the northern end of Holes Bay. The site consisted of an area of daub, up to 0.3 m thick in places over an area of about eight metres. Unstratified finds from topsoil deposits include two fragments of Romano-British type briquetage and a fragment of iron slag. The date and function of the site are unclear and it may be either industrial or domestic. The daub is high in organic temper and may have derived from a daub/cob structure, a hearth or perhaps from briquetage containers (though the fabric is different from known briquetage in the Poole Harbour area).
