Full Description

<1> Valentin J, 1996, An Archaeological Field Evaluation of the Proposed Arkell Prospect Exploratory Drill Site, Chaldon Herring, Dorset (NGR SY77858177) (Unpublished document). SWX8446.

'6.1 … a ditch in Trench 4 some 20 N of the southern site boundary. … Small quantities of Bronze Age pottery and flint flakes recovered from the ditch may indicate a possible later prehistoric date for the feature which may be a field boundary. The density of finds does not suggest settlement activity. … 6.4 In conclusion, the site offers limited potential for significant archaeological deposits. Its position, on a north-facing slope would suggest limited value for prehistoric settlement and the presence of a single boundary ditch, possibly of later prehistoric date, is not inconsistent with traces [of] other field systems noted in the area.'
