Abstract/Summary
Terrain Archaeology undertook a watching brief during the construction of an exploratory drilling site and access road on the ridge above West Compton at NGR SY56319344, during April and May 2002. No features of archaeological significance were found. A natural hollow at the southern end of the wellsite was filled with soil containing a large quantity of worked flint dating from the Mesolithic to the Middle-Late Bronze Age. The bulk of the assemblage is of Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age date and suggests there was a settlement or other focus of activity in the vicinity.
