Title | Archaeological Observation and Recording of structural investigation pits at 33 Mill Lane, Wareham |
Author/Originator | Cullinane, S |
Date/Year | 2015 |
Abstract/Summary
‘An archaeological watching brief was carried out in October 2015, during groundworks associated with the digging of three small test pits, which were being excavated in order to ascertain the conditions of the existing footings. One larger pit was also dug to determine the underlying geology. Although the site lies within the Saxon walls of the historic town, very little evidence of archaeological activity was found. Considerable depths of ‘dark earth’ overlay the natural geology, suggesting a long period of occupation, but little in the way of material remains were discovered. ‘
