Abstract/Summary
‘In March 2006, Terrain Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land to the rear of 91 Weston Road, Portland (NGR SY68627106) proposed for new development. Three trenches were excavated across the area of the site, but no significant archaeological features or deposits were encountered. At the northern end of the site in Trench 1, a number of tree-throws were found and one relatively recent pit containing the articulated remains of a cow. A stone rubble spread was found in Trench 3, which can be identified as a boundary to a small close depicted on the 1841 Tithe Map. A small quantity of earlier and later medieval pottery was recovered from the colluvium.’
