Abstract/Summary

‘Context One Heritage & Archaeology (C1) carried out archaeological monitoring and recording as a second stage of works to fulfil a condition of planning permission relating to ancillary works at Manor House, Abbotsbury, Dorset. The project was commissioned A&Q Partnership (London) Ltd on behalf of their client, Mr S Morrison. The Site is located within the Scheduled Monument of St Peter’s Abbey, with upstanding remains dating to the 13th and 14th centuries and associated earthworks within the wider Abbey precinct. A recent archaeological evaluation through trial trenching indicated that there has been modern landscaping to the south of the Manor House, and disturbance resulting from the installation of services close to the building. Despite the potential for the presence of former ecclesiastical remains no archaeological features or deposits were observed during this latest phase of investigations, the results mirroring the modern landscaping activity and disturbance recorded during previous trial trenching.’
